Duane Plant - Partner

Duane has over 25 years experience acting in divorce settlements and all aspects of family law. Duane specialises in complex financial settlements, usually where there are larger assets or a business to consider. Duane’s professional panel qualifications reflect his day to day work which is representing clients either as an advocate in court or where the breakdown of the family means there are sensitive children issues to resolve. Duane is recognised by the Legal 500 as “warm and highly articulate”. Duane is an experienced Collaborative Lawyer and Mediator and he enjoys the fact that these options enable clients to find tailor made solutions that meet their personal needs and interests. His clients are drawn by word of mouth from all over to Duane who sees clients in Cambridge or London.

Duane is a trainer of other Family Lawyers in Collaborative Family Law and in Collaborative Negotiation Skills. He is frequently asked by Practice Groups to present training within Pods. He has presented workshops for Resolution and IACP conferences.

Duane's Professional and Panel memberships include: Resolution Accredited Specialist Family Lawyer in children and ancillary relief advocacy; Law Society Family Law Panel member; member of the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals; member of the Cambridge Collaborative Group (committee member); member of Resolution in Cambridge and Cambridge Law Society (committee member). He is a member of the Resolution ADR committee. Duane is a member of Resolution's national sub-committee for ADR Training for Mediation and Collaborative Family Law. He is a Resolution Mediator. He is a member of the Family Justice Council ADR Committee.

For many years Duane has represented the views of local solicitors in the media on family law subjects. He is the Press Officer and spokesman for Cambridge Law Society, for Cambridge Collaborative Family Law Group and for Resolution (the body to which specialist family lawyers belong). Accordingly, Duane is sought out by the local and national media to comment upon topical family law issues for newspapers, radio and television.

Duane says "Family and divorce lawyers need to listen to the real needs of clients. I want to know what matters most to my clients so we can solve their problems in the real world, as effectively and efficiently as possible. A long drawn out court battle is so destructive and should only be a necessary last resort and not the first option."
